Sitting in my second waiting room today. I’ve never enjoyed the process of waiting. I’m the kind of guy who likes to cross things off my list as quickly as possible.

As I’m waiting for my turn to come up, I was thinking of how many of you reading this right now are in a different kind of waiting room.

You’re waiting for the test results to come back. You’re waiting for the treatment to work. You’re waiting for the roads to be clear, the power to come back on, your boss to see how valuable you really are, your husband/prodigal son to come home; the list goes on.

In 1 Kings 19 Elijah was tired of waiting. He had just come off an incredible victory, but when he looked around at the bigger landscape of his country, nothing seemed to change. So he ran away and poured out his hurt to God.

And God have him a peak behind the curtain. He let Elijah know that he hadn’t forgotten about him and he was working in places Elijah couldn’t see, doing things Elijah never even imagined. Elijah thought he was the only one, but the Lord said, “Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!” (1 Kings 19:18 NLT)

If you’re sitting in one of life’s waiting rooms today, know that God sees you, he’s working behind the scenes, and he’s going to get you through this. He’s not going to leave you on the waiting room forever and he’s got people out there for you to lean on during this season of waiting.

Keep trusting and following him one day at a time. Like Elijah, you’ll be glad you did.
