One of the hardest—and best—lessons I’ve learned about trials is this:

Instead of asking, “God, get me out of this!”
pray, “Lord, what do You want me to get out of this?”

There’s nothing wrong with asking God to help you out of hardships. That’s normal. And not every hardship is God trying to “teach you a lesson.” Life is hard for everyone, and sometimes we are the unintentional architects of our own suffering.

But trials—regardless of the source—can become training grounds for what God wants to develop in you and through you.

Don’t be so focused on getting to the mountaintop that you miss what God has for you in the valley.
