Every year around this time, I carve out time to journal and reflect on the past 12 months. I use four simple questions to guide that time. I typically respond with a few short bullet points for each question, but occasionally I’ll go deeper when a memory or lesson needs more space.

Here are the questions I use:

  1. What were the highlights of this year?
  2. What was challenging about this year?
  3. What were the major lessons I learned?
  4. What do I want to be and do next year?

A little bit of reflection can bring a lot of clarity.
